![]() Re: side wires, what does "recently replaced" mean? I replaced mine 3 years ago but have only put around 30 flights & hours on them since. It's like buying a Honda or Toyota with 50,000 miles on it-you know you can squeeze another 150,000 miles out of it easily if you don't abuse it. If you're looking at a Sport 2 with 90 hours, you're looking at a glider that has just been broken-in, unless for some reason the owner let it sit out in the sun set-up for long periods before and/or after flying it. It's been sitting out in all kinds of weather at Ft. ![]() Yep, that UV time is a killer!īTW, whatever you do, don't buy the glider below. Put them side by side and look at the difference. Take another, identical glider and fly it every weekend for the same period of time. Set a new glider up and leave it in the sun for a few months. Let's say you live in sunny California ('cause you do). The difference in longevity between the two was caused by the amount of UV time, not the amount of airtime. That glider only saw the coast a handful of times and was usually put away promptly after landing. That glider was often flown at the coast which in this case meant it had been set up and left sitting in the sun a lot.Īnother glider I flew 700 hours, sold it and the next owner added a few hundred more before retiring it. More importantly is how much time it's been out in the sun is more important.įor example, one glider of my gliders had less than 500 hours of airtime on it and the sail was ready for the scrap heap. It's not just the airtime on the glider that counts. There's some good info above, but something important has been missed.
